Kellett School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Swim Coach to work across our Preparatory and Senior Schools. MAIN PURPOSE
To support and deliver Physical Education, Games lessons, ECA and the competitive Swimming programme.
To work closely with the Head of Aquatics in continuing to develop swimming opportunities/provision across the Prep Schools / Senior School.

We have a through school approach to sport and games at Kellett. The school focuses on the following sports in both Prep Schools’ and the Senior School. Swimming is considered a major sport at Kellett, Division 1 swim team and enter the FOBISIA multi games, where swimming is a huge part of the games.
The Role
Kellett Sports, opened in 2012, features a 25-metre swimming pool with a movable floor and provides a dynamic environment for aquatics provision. The Senior Swim Coach plays a key role in delivering high-quality swimming instruction primarily to Prep School students, while leading Junior Swim Squad development, overseeing the Swimming ECA programme, and supporting competitive squad training. The role includes organising and running House and Prep School swim galas, assessing and supporting swimmers of varying abilities, and contributing to structured progression pathways aligned with recognised standards. The Senior Swim Coach works closely with the Head of Aquatics, Activities Office, and wider Sports Department to ensure effective programme delivery, maintain high standards of communication with swimmers and parents through progress reporting, and support the safe, efficient operation of pool facilities.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate Junior Swim Squad planning sessions, ensuring accurate tracking and management of swimmer data, while maintaining clear and consistent communication with parents regarding progress, schedules, and updates.
- Oversee the Swimming ECA programme, working closely with the Head of Aquatics and Activities Office to design, structure, and adapt the programme, effectively managing any changes to ensure smooth delivery and high participation.
- Deliver engaging swimming lessons that motivate, educate, and support students of varying abilities, providing clear instruction, feedback, and encouragement throughout each session.
- Organise and coordinate Prep School and House swim galas, ensuring smooth planning and delivery.
- Assess new students outside of scheduled lessons and deliver targeted catch-up sessions where required.
- Maintain effective communication with swimmers and parents, providing regular updates on progress and development.
- Monitor and report on student progress, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with the Head of Aquatics to structure lessons according to ability levels, ensuring progression towards recognised awards.
- Develop and continually enhance a competitive swimming programme, including regular team training and participation in competitions and galas.
- Work collaboratively with Heads of Aquatics, teachers, coaches, and wider sports staff to support departmental goals.
- Keep the Head of Aquatics and Facilities Management fully informed regarding pool operations, maintenance, and administration.
- Ensure all users and staff adhere to operating procedures, safety regulations, and emergency action plans.
- Monitor building systems with a focus on safety, efficiency, and user comfort.
- Prepare and maintain all pool and facility areas to meet lesson and activity requirements.
- Follow, review, and update operational procedures to ensure they remain clear and effective.
- Identify and report defects in materials or equipment, removing any unsafe items from use.
- Respond to and record all accidents, incidents, and emergencies in line with procedures.
- Attend departmental meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as required.
- Ensure all teaching resources and equipment are safe, well-maintained, and appropriately stored.
- Undertake lifeguard duties poolside when required.
- Provide support to the wider Sports Department as needed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date registers, ensuring records remain on site.
- Attend progress and award meetings to support student development.
- Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety at Work legislation and all relevant policies.
- Support delivery of the wider PE curriculum when the pool is unavailable.
