About The Role

Responsible To:   Additional Support Coordinator and Teacher 
Base:             Kowloon Bay Campus
Function:         To support individual student to enable them to access both the curriculum and school environment.

The role of the Additional Support Teaching Assistant (1:1) is to support students with identified additional needs in safely accessing the school environment and to enable the student to continue to make academic progress and develop personal skills.

The structure of the day will solely depend on the needs of the child. The hours of work will be based upon the Individual Education Plan of the child you are employed to support.

Kellett School is recruiting Additional Support Assistant (1 to 1) (KLB Prep) positions, with a mixture of Full-Time and Part-Time. 
 

Key Tasks and Duties:

  • To build a kind, supportive and professional working relationship with the child and their family to allow effective support for the child’s holistic development
  • To assist in the educational and social development of the child under the direction and guidance of relevant staff members and in collaboration with the child’s family
  • To work closely with the class teacher, specialist teachers and teaching assistants; maintaining positive and supportive working relationships to optimise learning for the child
  • To assist in the implementation of an Individual Education Programme for the child and help monitor their progress
  • To be able to support teaching and learning, adapting activities and reinforcing concepts to meet the needs of the child
  • To provide tailored support for the child both inside and outside the classroom to enable them to participate in activities. This includes break and lunch times.
  • To support the student with emotional and behavioural development
  • To support the Wellbeing Team with simple medical needs and intimate care
  • To liaise with other professionals, who support the child outside of school, as necessary and implement their recommendations
  • To attend training delivered by Kellett School, including Safeguarding
Administrative duties:
  • To keep an ongoing record of the child’s academic and personal progress in collaboration with the class teacher and Additional Support Coordinator and Teacher
  • To prepare and utilise resources outlined in the IEP or through recommendations from other professionals
  • To communicate regularly (as set by the school) and effectively with all stakeholders

Standards and quality assurance:

  • To support the aim of the school; A love of learning and confidence for life
  • To set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance
  • To attend team and staff meetings
  • To undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned by the School Leadership Team
  • To be proactive in matters relating to health and safety

Other Duties:

  • To accompany the child off the school premises as directed for school trips, but always in the presence of a teacher.With prior arrangement, to assist with residential visits.
 

About You

Required Skills:

  • Qualifications or experience in working with children with additional needs
  • Be able to approach the role with an all-round ‘can do’ attitude, exemplifying kindness, patience, energy and enthusiasm
  • Excellent spoken and written English skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the wider school community
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to be flexible in their approach to daily routines
  • Confident in supporting intimate care when required
  • Confident to advocate for, and safeguard, the child’s wellbeing and equity of access to the curriculum and school environment

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with Early Years/Pre School children
  • Confident in supporting the development of reading skills through phonics
 

Terms and Conditions:

Working Hours:  Monday to Friday (term time only) or can be otherwise specified.
Base : Kowloon Bay Prep, Kellett School
Working hours : Full time: 40 hours per week; Part time : 20 hours per week (actual work hours to be confirmed)

Fixed term contract with probationary period included, contract ends on 30 June every year, adjustable and renewable by mutual agreement.
