About The Role

The primary role of the Additional Support Teaching Assistant is to assist the Additional Support Coordinator and Teacher in delivering effective education to students requiring additional support through targeted interventions. The aim is enabling access to the curriculum and nurturing students learning potential at Kellett School. 
 
Key Tasks and Duties 
  • To be confident in supporting students within the senior school
  • Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the School Leadership Team,
  • Additional Support Coordinator and Teachers
  • Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans and Pupil Passports for students and help monitor their progress
  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
  • Work with other professionals, such as school counsellors, speech therapists and occupational therapists, as required
  • Supervise students with Access Arrangements during assessments
  • Assist with the maintaining of student records
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  •  Support the department in administrative duties related to supporting students
  • Prepare resources outlined in the IEP or Pupil Passport
  • Promote the values and aims of the school
  • Adhere to all school policies in relation to Health and Safety, Staff Attendance, Dress Code etc.
  • Comply with any reasonable request from a manager to undertake work of a similar level that is not specified in this job description.
  • Participate in, and demonstrate continuous commitment to the annual review, quality assurance and appraisal cycle.
  • Participate in school-wide INSET initiatives.
  • Seek opportunities that may arise from the professional development process.
  • Take full responsibility for areas that may be reviewed in a full school audit or an inspection.
  • Attend team and staff meetings.
  • Undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned by the School Leadership Team and Additional Support Coordinator
  • Assist with the supervision of students on their arrival/departure and during school times as requested.
  • Accompany children off the school premises as directed, but usually in the presence of a teacher.  With prior arrangement, to assist with residential visits.
  • Assist in the maintenance of resources and equipment. 
  • Use Kellett School resources judiciously.
 
Terms and Conditions:

Working Hours:  Monday to Friday (term time only) 0730-1530
Base:  Kowloon Bay Campus
Working hours:  Full time: 40 hours per week; Part time: 20 hours per week (actual work hours to be confirmed)
Contract: Ongoing

About You

REQUIREMENTS:

Kellett School are looking for a candidate who understands that not all children learn in the same manner. Characteristics such as patience, kindness and having an open mind are essential for this post. Training will be provided within the Additional Support Department and our experienced teachers. This is a great role for candidates wishing to learn about neurodiversity or are considering a career in teaching or enjoy working with and supporting students. 

Excellent command of written and spoken English. 
Good computer/ technical skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and the wider school community.
Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work. 
Ability to develop and positive relationships with others (Teachers, TA’s, parents etc)
Ability to work in a team environment
Experience working with Special Educational Needs and Disability desirable but not essential
Knowledge of the English National Curriculum is desirable but not essential
