About The Role

Base: Pok Fu Lam Campus
Function: To assist the Additional Support Coordinator (ASC) in delivering effective education to an individual student requiring specialised one-to-one interventions.

The primary role of the Additional Support Teaching Assistant is to follow learning targets and/or an Individual Education Plan set by Teachers and the Additional Support Coordinator. This role commonly involves supporting a student one-to-one in the main classroom as well as supporting classwork in the learning support room. The aim is enabling access to the curriculum and to nurture their learning potential at Kellett School. The aim is always to work towards a situation where the student no longer requires your support and can access the curriculum and navigate day-to-day life independently.

The structure of the day will solely depend on the needs of the child. The hours of work will be based upon the Individual Education Plan of the child you are employed to support.

 

 Key Tasks and Duties:

  • To assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the School Leadership Team, ASC and class teachers
  • To assist in the implementation of the Individual Education Programme for the individual student and help monitor their progress
  • To provide support for the individual student inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
  • To liaise with other professionals, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, as necessary
  • To assist the ASC with maintaining student records
  • To support the student with potential emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills
  • To build a professional working relationship with the student where you can effectively support them in their development and help them advocate for their needs independently

About You

We are looking for a candidate who understands that not all children learn in the same manner. Characteristics such as patience, kindness and having an open mind are essential for this post. Training will be provided within the Additional Support Department and our experienced teachers. This is a great role for candidates wishing to learn about the English National Curriculum and considering a career in teaching. In addition, the role requires:

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • Good computer/ technical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and the wider school community.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Ability to develop and positive relationships with others (Teachers, TA’s, parents etc)
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Experience of working with Special Educational Needs and Disability desirable but not essential
  • Experience of Early Years Curriculum desirable but not essential

Terms and Conditions:

Base: Pok Fu Lam Campus
Working Hours: 40 hours per week

 Fixed term contract ending 30 June every year, renewable by mutual agreement.
