Base: Kowloon Bay Campus / Pok Fu Lam Campus
Function: To Assist the Additional Support Coordinator (ASC) in delivering effective education to
an individual student requiring specialised one-to-one interventions.
The primary role of the one-to-one Additional Support Teaching Assistant (1:1TA) is to act as a dedicated individual for the child to access the curriculum and maximise their learning potential. Whilst this position is dedicated to supporting one individual, small group work is included as well (otherwise the child in question would become overly dependent). The aim is always to work towards a situation where the student no longer requires your support and can access the curriculum and navigate day-to-day life independently.
The structure of the day will solely depend on the needs of the child. The hours of work will be based upon the Individual Education Plan of the child you are employed to support.
Key Tasks and Duties:
- To assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the School Leadership Team, ASC and class teachers
- To assist in the implementation of the Individual Education Programme for the individual student and help monitor their progress
- To provide support for the individual student inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
- To work with other professionals, such as speech therapists and occupational therapists, as necessary
- To assist the ASC with maintaining student records
- To support the student with potential emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills
- To build a professional working relationship with the student where you can effectively support them in their development and help them advocate for their needs independently
Administrative duties:
- To prepare and present displays of the students' work
- To support the ASC in administrative duties related to supporting students
Standards and quality assurance:
- To support the aim of the school; A love of learning and confidence for life
- To set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality and attendance
- To attend team and staff meetings
- To undertake professional duties that may be reasonably assigned by the School Leadership Team
- To be proactive in matters relating to health and safety
Other Duties:
- To assist with the supervision of students on their arrival/departure and during school times as requested.
- To accompany children off the school premises as directed, but usually in the presence of a teacher. With prior arrangement, to assist with residential visits.
- To assist in the maintenance of resources and equipment.
- To use Kellett School resources judiciously.
